Make Up Games: Sunburn Tips

When you get a sunburn, you really don’t want to put anything on your skin and I don’t blame you. However, a sunburn is damage to your skin and your makeup skills and knowledge will get called into play to try and cool it off, keep it from peeling and then hiding it as much as possible.

Of course you should always wear sunscreen, but if something went wrong out there and you wind up burned, take a cool shower immediately and then smoothe on aloe vera. Once the aloe vera lotion dries on your skin, pull on old, loose clothing. This is the time to relax and avoid clothing that rubs and that will agitate the sunburn more. A lose cami, or a shirt with a built it shelf bra is a nice choice for lounging about the house, but avoid straps and fasteners directly on top of the sunburn.

Before you go to bed, smear on a large amount of lotion and then put more on every few hours to try and keep the skin moisturized. A bad sunburn will peel regardless, but some sunburns will simply fade without peeling if you keep the skin moisturized. Choose a lotion without fragrance or special added properties. You can expect aloe vera to cool the burning, but lotion might trap the heat a bit and you’ll feel hotter. But as the sunburn cools on its own, your skin will be smoother and hopefully intact over the affected area.
